Ten trading guidelines
Practical guidelines many careful traders use. They are rules of thumb, not guarantees: markets change, and every guideline has limits. Use them together with the lessons on risk management.
1. Protect your capital first
You can't trade if you have no money left. Survival comes before profit, always.
2. Never risk more than 1–2% per trade
Small risk means a losing streak is annoying, not devastating.
3. Always know your exit before you enter
Stop-loss and target are decided while you're calm, not while the price is moving.
4. Only take trades with at least 2:1 reward-to-risk
Then you can be wrong more often than right and still come out ahead.
5. Trade with the trend
Fighting the trend is the most expensive hobby in trading.
6. If there is no setup, there is no trade
Boredom is not a reason to click buy. Cash is a position too.
7. Never add to a losing position
“Averaging down” turns small losses into account-ending ones.
8. Journal every trade
Your journal will teach you more than any guru ever could.
9. Ignore tips, signals and hype
If someone knew the future, they wouldn't sell it for €50 on Telegram.
10. Think in series of 100 trades
One trade means nothing. Your edge shows up over many trades, so judge your process, not a single result.
